REASON #1: Research says it's good for you!
- U.S. Department of Education data show that students who report consistently high levels of involvement in instrumental music during the middle- and high-school years show "significantly higher levels of mathematics proficiency by grade 12."
- When you listen to music, multiple areas of your brain become engaged and active. But when you actually play an instrument, that activity becomes more like a full-body brain workout.
- Music helps the release of dopamine, an organic chemical released by our neurons that boosts reward, motivation and reinforcement.
- Children who study a musical instrument are more likely to excel in all of their studies, work better in teams, have enhanced critical thinking skills, stay in school, and pursue further education.
- It’s notable that both teachers (89%) and parents (82%) rate music education highly as a source for greater student creativity, a 21st century skill that’s highly likely to help young people stand out in an increasingly competitive global economy.
- Music can enable the production of endorphins from the pituitary gland and the central nervous system. Endorphins are usually produced to inhibit pain, but they can also give a feeling of euphoria.
- Music can help reduce the production of the stress hormone, Cortisol, that in the long run affects our learning capability, memory, blood pressure, cholesterol, and can increase the chances of heart disease.
- Students will be provided with an instrument and all necessary supplies FOR FREE!
- Having 5 years of playing an instrument (grade 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) looks good if you are going to apply to private high schools or STEM schools. It shows you are committed!
- Participating in orchestra will help you learn to manage your time
- It’s a great way to meet new friends, and stay with old orchestra friends from your elementary school!
